Training sessions for MEDESS-4MS

MEDESS-4MS project created an integrated operational multi-model oil spill drift prediction service. It gathers existing modelling systems, data and operational information in the Mediterranean area in order to have a comprehensive forecasting and decision support tool.

The project had set up a range of sub-regional end-users meetings to present and test its system. The first “Info Day” took place in Brussels on the 4th of June. That was the first general end-users meeting in the presence of the DG ECHO. MEDESS-4MS project took the opportunity to show a demo of its system.

MEDESS-4MS project, the REMPEC and the CEDRE jointly organized on the 8th of July the first sub-regional end-users meeting in France. This first training session gathered 14 participants from several institutions.

Four new training sessions are scheduled on:

  • October, 9 in Italy (Roma)
  • November, 11 in Spain (Madrid) and Greece (location to be determined)
  • December, 10 and 11 in Cyprus (location to be determined).

The system needs the inputs of the rest of the countries concerned to continue its development in order to make a tool used in all Mediterranean countries.

Assumptions are considered in order to maintain the system beyond the end of the project such as the creation of a legal structure as a nonprofit association.
