The second European Cooperation Day will be celebrated this year. This Europe wide celebration will be officially opened on 10th September 2013 during the Kick Off celebration in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Various local events will then be celebrated until, and mainly around the 21st September.

The aim of the campaign is to communicate the achievements of European cooperation across borders to the general public. The local events showcase how cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation projects are reducing obstacles and disparities, while at the same time increasing cultural understanding and efficiency between European regions. All these initiatives funded by the European Union have helped to improve people’s lives along the many borders within Europe and beyond.

The first European Cooperation Day organised in 2012 brought together 70 ETC programmes and resulted in 281 events across 36 countries in Europe.

Be part of it!

Many local activities and events are in preparation and MED projects could also take part in this adventure and benefit from the media interest, the various promotion platforms etc. You could rethink your activities planned for this autumn: is there a ‘pulbic’ interest/session that you could further develop or even add in the framework of events planned? Or could you organise a field trip, competition, art activities involving the general public, e.g. pupils, students, artists? You could also combine activities, e.g. finalise a project event with a public concert. In any case, the activity shall not be composed of technical conferences simply 'retitled', but clearly focus on information, communication and exchange with the general public in a festive atmosphere.

Campaign synergies and partnerships

In order to strengthen synergies, cooperation and increased presence of Europe in the cities/regions, also this year the European Cooperation Day will take place in association with the OPEN DAYS and in partnership with the Committee of the Regions. The events of the ECD 2013 will be listed in the catalogue of OPEN DAYS' local events. Thus, you could profit from these additional promotion activities! Please find more information below.

Furthermore, we invite you to inform the Europe Direct offices in your city/region and involve in your events and activities.

How MED projects could get involved and how to coordinate?

Please note: the activities are jointly carried out by ETC programmes and projects all over Europe. In order to coordinate the work load, activities shall be bundled and coordinated by programme. If you are intererested to organise events in the framework of the ECD, please contact the MED JTS communication staff which will coordinate and communicate all MED activities with INTERACT organising the framework media activities and promotion. Please also know that there is a joint logo to be used as well a promotion materials that can be distributed.

At the moment, the MED Programme is about to organise the following activities (more joint activities with NCPs and/or other programmes might follow):

Activities in a new EU Member State: The IPA-MED Liaison Office together with the Croatian, but also the other IPA contact points organise an ECD celebration in Dubrovnik on 23rd September. This celebration is composed of several parts:

  • Cycling in the city competition
  • Graffiti for a colourful cooperation with pupils of local elementary schools (exhibition until December 2012 in Dubrovnik city center)
  • Music and dance in the city center with dancing groups and folklore bands from Croatia

Further details will be communicated once the concept will be finalised. You might be able to contribute to those activities and see synergies with the programme? In this case, please contact Kirill Dimanopoulos.

Joint activities in Valencia: Our ENPI-MED Liaison Office in Valencia is organising together with the INTERACT, INTERREG IVC, ENPI CBC MED programme a vivid programme in Valencia including music, art performance. If you can imagine possiblities to involve yourself or your project, please contact Mercedes Acitores.
